-- About Category 6 Cables --
Category 6 or Cat6 cable much like Category 5
cable in many ways. It is also mostly
used for networking
when connecting a computer to another computer or other
networking device. Like Cat5 cable
the Cat6 cable uses twisted pairs of cables to
carry the signals through the cable. But unlike Cat5 cable
, Cat6 cable is designed to
be used with Gigabit Ethernet. Gigabit Ethernet is 10x faster then the Fast Ethernet standard that Cat5 cable
is designed to be used with. Cat6 cable can be used with with regular Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet standards.

- When used for 10/100/1000BASE-T, the maximum allowed length of a Cat 6 cable is 100 meters (330 ft).
- When used for 10GBASE-T, Cat 6 cable's maximum length is 55 meters (180 ft) in a favourable alien crosstalk environment,
but only 37 meters (121 ft) in a hostile alien crosstalk environment such as when many cables are bundled together.
